This is covered in the FAQ, which was posted to Majordomo-Users just a
couple of days ago (look for changes to request-answer).

Typical symptom of incorrect permissions, probably on the log file
directory: check the FAQ again (there's a recursive loop when logging
fails during a call to abort). Remember that mj tries to lock files it
accesses, which means it must be able to create the lock files in the
same directory as the file being locked.
