glancing at the code (in the ./bin directory), rmlist removes

contents of the /lists/ directory
held messages
stale locks
any MTA-specific aliases (e.g. aliases or virtual-mailman)
archives

the config.pck file -is- the "database" for each list.

Read up on how the virtualization stuff works, too.
