I've been helping a fellow get mailfilter working under windows,
there are still some minor issues that need worked on there, like looking for
mailfilter.rc instead of .mailfilterrc for one example.

From: "Internet Services Office" [I removed the address, let me know if any
wants to contact him. Don't like posting other peoples addresses on lists,
might get them more spam.]

Hi!

I've managed to mailfilter working (mostly). I've actually managed to get it
running on both RedHat 7.2 and Windows 2000, and I'm REALLY impressed with
it so far. This is a great project you guys are working on. It's great
service to the community. I am, however, having a one strange problem
though, and I have no idea who to ask. I figure since you are so familiar
with mailfilter, you might know about this, or at least know who I could
ask. The situation is this:

Most of the spam that ends up in my box on my host mailserver gets killed by
mailfilter with no problem. Occasionally, however, a message gets into my
box that is "malformed" in a particular way such that mailfilter hangs when
it tries to evaluate it. Specifically, if messages are formed where all ends
line with CR+LF (i.e., Char13 and Char10 both) everything is fine, but if
the mail is formed where lines end with only LF (Char10 alone) then
mailfilter can't deal with it. Even worse, it not only doesn't process that
message, it just stops completely and you have to CTRL-C to get out.

[I asked how MAXLENGTH was set, have not got answer yet.]

Obviously I'm aware that this is an open-source freeware project, so it's
not like I'm try to imply that anyone anywhere has some kind of obligation
to solve this. I'm just trying to figure out if this behavior has been
confirmed and if there might be a solution.

Further, I've been authorized by my employer to possibly pay for a
programmer to tweak mailfilter to solve this, so I'm trying to figure out if
there are any of the mailfiilter programmers who might be interested in
doing a little paid consulting coding. I figure there's got to be someone
who'd be interested in being paid to fix something now that they would
probably want to fix anyway eventually.

Any leads on this would be much appreciated! Thanks for your help!

Mark Johnson
