Yes. Use Xetex. See the wiki. But for Liberation fonts which are just copies
with a nicer licence of very common fonts already accessible in LyX, it is
a bit pointless.

If you want to try the possibilities of XeTeX, install Acrobat Reader that
comes with a copy of Minion in Otf format, copy the Minion font in a place
where fontconfig can find it and then you can play with it in XeTeX.

Minion is a very nice font from a gifted font designer but the Adobe otf
file has some problematic kerning pairs.
