Natbib is for references in text of your paper with numbers (Like Meyer2007b said... bla bla.. and long references in an annexed bibliography) Looking at your signature, you seem to be working in the Humanities, then jurabib or biblatex (more experimental and not supported out of the box in LyX) is more adapted to you if you want something like : Footnote 1 : G.
