Can you type ô and ê in a terminal or another program ?
a) YES -> there must be a specific keyboard configuration file in
your .lyx/keybd that creates the problem. See the customization manual
b) NO -> Xorg is badly configured.
By the way, is there anybody who uses this lyx-specific keyboard
configuration ? In my opinion, it looks like a relic of the past and a
useless layer of complexity. Keyboards should be configured OS-wide.
