I suppose, the character encoding is the same as in Windoof generally, they
call it ansi and it is (at least almost) identical to iso-latin1, besides
the CR-LF <-> CR Dos-to-Unix conversion problem.
The recode program is the most comprehensive source of info and help
regarding character conversion I know of. (The info files are really
elaborated.) You can also get lists of the encodings inclusive the names of
the characters out of the program...
I tried recode l1..ms-ansi on the example below and got no changes -- thus
assuming that this part is in fact identical encoded in iso-latin 1 and
MS-Win ansi encodings.
