Hi Ola
If you are using a book document style, it will always start a new chapter on
a fresh page (on a fresh left hand page if you have two-sided enabled).
Each document style has its own numbeing style and, unless you get into the
details of LaTeX, there are only limited changes you can make.
It may be more helpful to say what your univesity's expectations are because,
if you are using a book style, there is some TeX code which you can insert to
make the final document match particular requirements.
LaTeX was originally designed to follow the Chicago Manual of Style and the
Cambridge Handbook - the equivalent British manual - follows similar lines.
But I know from my niece's experiences that some universities expect very non-
standard styles.
