OK, here is the technical information. I was using the TeX installed at
our department, under Linux. Here is the normal reaction of TeX to a
Lyx-produced revTeX file:

So the suggestion was that I add the tex inputs directory of LyX to the
environment. I have LyX installed in my home directory (i.e. I
configured --with-prefix=$HOME). Here are the results:
