If the following helps I add:

Using ltsp 5.5.1 the default setup uses the undeclared parameter
FAT_RAM_THRESHOLD=400
which means any client with less than 400 MB RAM, is setup to run as a
thin client and any client with 400 or more MB RAM is setup to run as a
fat client. This behavior is seamless and allows any combination of
numbers of fat and thin clients running off the same server.

A rough calculation of memory requirements for the server may be put as
1.5GB for server just for itself, 30 MB per fat client and 300 MB per
thin client though this varies with usage.

If desired one may declare FAT_RAM_THRESHOLD= to any other value in the
[Default] section.

Also, if desired, one may declare LTSP_FATCLIENT=False (or True) in
sections dedicated to a certain mac-address to override just for those
clients.
