Thanks. It is interesting that Nortel would say so. I am saying it because I am at \

I would suggest to upgrade to AlteonOS 23.0.3.4 - you have mentioned that the unit \
became stable as soon as you have removed the proxy IP. There is a known problem with \
the 2208 and the 2216 in case proxy IPs are used. Out of the 23.0.3.4 release notes: \
 Q01389286
PANIC: 2208/2216 switches may panic when Proxy IP address are being used and the \
switch receives an ICMP echo request sent to the Proxy IP address. This panic affects \
ONLY 2208 and 2216 switch types. It is strongly recommended that all customers with \
2208/2216 switches using code version 23.0 upgrade to 23.0.3.4 immediately.

The reason for the apparent flapping had been discovered: the Alteon (model 2208) \
was crashing and rebooting every hour or so, if Proxy IP was configured. When the PIP \
was removed from the configuration, it stopped crashing…

It looks SFP is not fully compatible with the switch.

why don't you try to change SFP ?

	Thanks,

states.

May this be related to a spanning tree topology change at the 8600?

It is worth noting that Alteon P ort9 is configured on STG1, not STG3, and is \
attached to a 8600 port belonging to STG1.

Alteon's port10 is indeed configured on STG3 at the Alteon, because it belongs to a \
different VLAN than Port9, and the Alteon made me allocate it to a distinct STG. \
However, the STG of the 8600 port attaching Port10 could not be changed because of \
existing VLAN configuration; i.e. it remained at the original STG1).
