Subject: RE: [load balancing] Alteon Scenario

Hi,

This is possible, the only problem you might have is if all the servers are connected \
via the same port on the Alteon. If this is the case you will need to enable Proxy \
IP's on the switch for the SQL servers (disabling proxy on the web servers).

i.e.

if clients come in on port 1. /cfg/slb/port 1/client enable

servers on port 2 (including the SQL servers). /cfg/slb/port 2/server ena /client \
enable / proxy enable

on the web servers disable proxy

/cfg/slb/real <x>/proxy disable

Then just put proxy IP on each port (have to be valid and routable)

/cfg/slb/port 1/pip x.x.x.1

....

/cfg/slb/port 8/pip x.x.x.8

This will of course cause the switch to replace the SIP of the stream to the PIP \
address, this will cause the return traffic to return via the switch.

Note Web requests will not have the SIP replaced as proxy is disabled both on the \
client port and in the real servers.

Another way round the problem would be to put the SQL servers into a different IP \
subnet and have the Alteon as the default gateway. Thus forcing the return traffic \
through the loadbalancer. Or just put them on a different physical port.

Cheers

Giles

Hi,

Can i have one scenario with one alteon balancing two web servers (http and https) \
and at the time balancing SQL requests from those web servers to a poll of two SQL \
database servers?
