"Software Version 10.0.25-SSH (FLASH image1), active configuration"

Is the output I get when I telnet the 180e. Can you tell me if there are any
issues with this version ?

Hi,

What version of code are you running on your 180e? There were some issues with L7 and \
persistency to do with HTTP1.1 that were broken in some early versions of code.
Rich.

Subject: [load balancing] persistance and L7 content switching conflict

Alright,

I've started working with an alteon 180e and I'm learning
as I go. I have two app servers between which the alteon is
loadbalancing all http traffic. The websites are session based
so I have enabled clientip persistance to ensure that once a
client connects all their requests will go to the same server.

Now the client wants to set up a series of test pages on each
machine which will allow her to connect directly to the desired
machine and run some coldfusion db connectivity tests.
The testpages have their own unique directorynames depending on which
machine they're on, so I set it up to do layer 7 content switching based on
the url - it looks for the directory names in the URL - if it finds it, the request
is forwarded to the appropriate machine. If it doesn't find it, it loadbalances
the request as normal.

The only problem is that this doesn't work with persistance enabled.
if you try to go to the two different machines from the same clientip
then it doesn't work.
I'm going to look into different persistance methods but I thought I'd check
here first if anyone knows a way around the problem ??

Cheers
Colm
