HI Jamie,

What version of WebOS are you presently running?

Version 10 has just been released (about 4 weeks ago) and is available for
download. The support site includes a listing of the bug fixes/patches under
the software download section. If you go to the site and do a search (under
"PRODUCT SELECTION") using the version of code you are interested in, i.e.
8.3, it will provide you with a listing of various patches available
(Software downloads are available only to customers with support contracts).
If you click on the link for that version, the next page will have another
link showing the "read me" file along with the downloadable code, which is
where the patch release/bug fix notes are located. The text format leaves
something to be desired, but hopefully that too will be fixed soon.

You can set up a profile for yourself by selecting "My Profile" located on
the left hand side of the main support page. From there, select "Data and
Internet" and you will be provided with a listing of products in
alphabetical order........good thing Alteon starts with an "A" :-). You can
then select the Alteon products you are interested in and they will be added
to your profile. (make sure you scroll to the bottom of the page to answer
the additional profile questions) When you sign on in the future, you will
have a listing of the various alteon products you selected located on the
right hand side of the page. You can then click on them and you will get all
the info. associated with those products, i.e software downloads, tech doc.
etc.

Our support site is an ongoing work in progress. We are trying hard to make
it easier to use. The above info. should help you.

As for the email list for updates, we are working on updating our customer
list so that we can provide these types of updates as we did in the past
when we were on our own. Our migration from one Clarify system to another
did cause us some grief with customer data, but we are making headway in
getting email addresses etc. back in place. You can call 1-8004Nortel to
make sure your info. is up to date so that when emails start to fly again,
you will be included.

I hope this has helped. Please feel free to call into support if you need
any further assistance.

Regards,
ScottM

I recently went through the same dilemma of trying to upgrade and received
conflicting information from Nortel as well. In the end, I am waiting
because I am confused as to what version to upgrade to.

However, the one statement from Nortel Techs in common not to upgrade to 9
and one recommended that 8.0.63 is the most stable. I also heard rumors that
there would be a version 10 soon. I have tried finding the best version on
by release notes on their website but was unsuccessful.

If someone from Nortel could set the Alteon users of this list straight it
would be great!

Also, does Nortel have an email list for product updates/patch
announcements?

I am getting conflicting answer from Alteon on this question, and
I wanted to get some feedback from the list.

We are currently running version 8.0.49 of the Alteon code in the field.
We are looking to upgrade to 9.0.41.5. I realize that this is a two-step
process (8.3, then 9.0.41.5). During this process we also have to upgrade
the kernel. The current kernel on most of our boxes is 6.0.x, we were
planning to upgrade the kernel to 8.0.x, in case we have problems with the
9.0 code and have to revert back to 8.3.

We were told that Alteon does not recommend running 9.0 code, with an 8.0
kernel. But if we upgrade to the 9.0 kernel, then we can not revert back
to 8.3 (of course support says there is no way we would need to revert,
because 9.0 is so stable :)).

What are the possible problems that can occur if we run 8.3 as image 1,
9.0.41.5 as image 2, and an 8.0 kernel?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this, and Alteon guys -- please feel
free to chime in :).
