i'm sorry. the first problem was not fakeroot or listar related:
it's nfs related. building on local fs works fine (with or without fakeroot).
but with nfs the "cp" command is working find, but the "find" command
does not find the files just copied. a second later the find command works ok
and lists all files. strange.

(kernel 2.2* at client and server, user nfs server 2.2beta37-1).

guess it's a problem with the client (2.2.3-ac4) cacheing nfs directory data.
will try 2.2.8...
