It should not. First ecartis reads global config file, then virtual
config file. So you only need to add config variables which are
different from default config to virtual.cfg.

That's not how it's working.

| - if I specify an absolute filename, it should be used.

It's not bug. It's just not properly documented. It's not path to
filename. It's filename.

| - if the resulting filename does not exist, is wrong, or whatver:
| ecartis should print an error message and exit with an error code.
| it simply did nothing, I waited and waited, and nothing happened.
| that sounds very wrong to me.

That's really a bug.

| maybe ecartis does not allow absolute filenames for security
| reasons? in that case, it should print an error message, too.

I don't know how it's implemented like it's now. I know it's confusing
but it really works as all config system in ecartis. you can specify
global configs for lists in ecartis.cfg and if those config-variables
are not overrided in list config they will apply. virtual.cfg interface
just adds one config-file between ecartis.cfg and list config where you
can override default config values for virtual host.

I do run all mailinglists as virtualhosts but I still have global
ecartis.cfg.
