Got out of it finally, but without any update action.  Had to use a 
SIGKILL (9) from htop to kill it.

The ieee1394 tree I had in 2.6.11-rc1-V0.7.35-01-RT, moved to the 
2.6.11-rc2 tree fails to build, so I've moved the original ieee1394 
tree back into place & trying to build 2.6.11-rc2-V0.7.36-03-RT 
again.

And that built ok, so a reboot is in order.
