At the moment, you will need to run a 2.6 Linux kernel with the latest
ieee1394 source from the Subversion trunk.  The eth1394 driver in the
Subversion repository has been successfully tested to communicate with
MacOSX and WinXP.  After that, you can assign static IP addresses as you
normally would.  I doubt DHCP will work, because I believe that it has
not yet been updated to understand the hardware type for FireWire (see
RFC 2855 for more details).
