Brief description of the problem.

Using two linksys version-2.2 WAP11s configured as bridges to each other
over a 7 km wirelesslink.
Mandrake linux, ping utility, iputils-ss020124
used to ping to remote WAP11 LAN address:
ping -c2 -t1 192.168.0.251

All those duplicates came from before the last ping, that is, from the first
ping.
A continuously running ping will return 3 to 60 duplicates from each outgoing
ping,
as in:
PING 192.168.0.251 (192.168.0.251) from 192.168.0.3 : 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=1 ttl=30 time=2.97 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=1 ttl=30 time=3.74 ms (DUP!)
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=1 ttl=30 time=4.89 ms (DUP!)
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=1 ttl=30 time=5.95 ms (DUP!)
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=1 ttl=30 time=6.98 ms (DUP!)
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=1 ttl=30 time=7.95 ms (DUP!)
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=1 ttl=30 time=8.62 ms (DUP!)
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=1 ttl=30 time=9.44 ms (DUP!)
64 bytes from 192.168.0.251: icmp_seq=2 ttl=30 time=3.08 ms
--- 192.168.0.251 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 2 received, +7 duplicates, 0% loss, time 1006ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 2.976/5.962/9.440/2.296 ms

When the WAP11s are in the same building, a countinuously running ping will
return
the infrequent (DUP!), which implies to me a signal strength relationship.

Pinging an IP on the LAN connected to the remote WAP11 produces many duplicates
as well.

Using the tcpdump tool shows one outgoing ICMP request (ttl=1) with many ICMP
replies.
In fact, any service request to the WAP11 returns many, many identical replies.

There are no duplicate IP addresses to get replies from; this is just a
wireless link
(bridge) with IP addresses within the same \24 netmask.

Any insights?
