This certianly has implications for possible GPL violations.

But let me throw in another data point -- ADMTek is best known for their
ethernet controllers.  And they're tulip clones, using the tulip driver.

It's possible that they designed their 802.11b chipset to use a similar
host interface as the tulip, so the driver core would be very similar.
