I've worked for the same kind of program.
Since I've not yet got a prism card whose firmware can work for dot11req_scan, I'm \
using the promiscuous mode to detect all reachable BSSs. \
Kismet(http://www.kismetwireless.net/index.shtml) is a very good program to do it.
