After modifying /etc/pcmcia/config, did you restart pcmcia services?
If you did, then check your /var/log/messages file (or equivalent on your
system). Look at the pcmcia initialization and make sure cardmgr didn't
report any syntax errors in your config file. This one gets me more than
I'd like to admit.

PS: You _do_ have the other piece of /etc/pcmcia/config that's required,
right? Namely:
device "am930_cs"
class "wlan" module "am930_cs"
