There's also the book "Linux Device Drivers" from O'Reilly.  I ended up
finding the answer to my question in the book after I posted to the
list.
It's a good book, except that it's almost a year old already.  However,
it does have a lot of good information, and there is a chapter on the 
differences between 2.0.x and 2.1.x.
