I had about the same problem. I have to set the vidmem option with the bttv driver
before I got a clear TV pictures.

Do a ftpsearch for xtvscreen and it will come up with a binary.

To get the glide tv to compile you have to update the glidetv code so it can use
the video4linux API. I have compiled it and it can tune to the channels xtvscreeen
uses. The problem is it only produces sound, no visuals. Something goes wrong with
the overlay I guess.

The tuner I don't know about but did you try to get visuals of the video channel?
