Not true.
Yes, there are diffent kinds of opens (VIDEOIN, VIDEOEXTERNALIN, etc.),
and the different kinds had different possible calls, but two opens of
the same kind have the same calls, but are different contexts, and you
could make each context unique because each had a unique open handle.

For example, when you have two or more VIDEOIN handles, each VIDEOIN
handle has its own format, and when you call DVM_FRAME you get the image
in the format for that open handle.

Well, MASTER/LURKER is just another way of saying capture-channel /
settings-channel.
