Thank you Paul Davis and others again.
But I just this day got jackd -v = 0.74.1, the latest
Is jackd to be RUNNING on compile??
Now the same error

../libs/ardour/.libs/libardour.a(audioengine.o): 
In function `ARDOUR::AudioEngine::start()':
/home/bart/2ndownload/ardour-0.9beta2/libs/ardour/audioengine.cc:90: 
undefined reference to `jack_set_xrun_call back'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I will see if maybe some prior jack install is lying around
I used to use ~/bin or even ~/bin/bin by error to ./configure --prefix
I leave /usr/local/bin as the default nowadays
But I do not think this is the problem.
