Yes, that doesn't seem to be related to this problem.

71 is EPROTO, meaning that some low-level error occurred.  Most likely the 
device simply failed to respond to the packet.

It looks to me like the device just crashed.  It doesn't respond to 
anything else from then on.  Later on your log shows the device 
disconnecting itself electrically from the bus.

It's possible that you're seeing some sort of interference affecting the 
USB signals.  You should check all your cables and connections, just in 
case.  But more likely it's a deeper problem with the drive.
