Maybe you could try
InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer"  # usb mouse
InputDevice "Mouse2" "AlwaysCore"  # trackpoint

I don't know your distro, but you could see whether there is a file called 
/etc/modules.autoload or similar. There you could add the module on a single 
line.

But since your USB mouse works you don't have to load the module yourself.
