Thanks a lot for the response, I will certainly bear it in mind when I finally 
come to buy the machine (probably around the middle of December after the 
refund from Dell is safely in my bank account).

At the moment I'm slightly tending towards a Toshiba machine since it has a 
NVidia Geforce4 rather than the Radeon of the Sony, and I must admit that 
while lots of people have had problems with the binary drivers, I have had 
absolutely no problems with them at all. In fact, DRI with an ATI Rage Pro 
128 caused more problems....

I was speaking to some guy in a shop today and he reckons that the machines 
are on 6-8 week product life cycles so by the time I come to get the machine 
I could be favouring a Sony option again :)
