I installed mandrake 8.1 on my VAIO PCG-F610 and I?ve encountered the following problems:
1. on log in fails to set ?aumix? - which means I have no sound
2. until recently I had to mount/unmount each individual floppy/CD manually through the xterm
shell (a friend helped me out with that now it mount through the icon and unmount through the menu
command - much like a mac)
3. and here is the most problematic of all glitches cuz I really don?t know what to do - I logout
of the session properly, but as I go to shut down it freezes at this point
(I?ve reproduced the source of my frustration for your entertainment...in hope someone can shed
some light on this)

does this make any sense to you? I?m a total nubie and this reads like sansckit to me...I?m
assuming it might have something to do with the kernel or bios icompatibility but I don?t know
enough to act on that or any conjecture for that matter!
The only way I could get the system back up is by manually extracting the battery and unplugging
it...but there must be a better way!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
