Hi!

I get a lockup during kernel-boot running the 2.4-kernel.

Hardware: Asus CUV4XD, 2x 800EB Pentium III Coppermine, SCSI-Controller
ICP Vortex GDT6533RS

First I tried the 2.4.0-kernel from SuSE, then the latest 2.4.2 from
www.kernel.org. Both of them lead to the same error. I will try to
specify the kernel boot-messages, but unfortunately I'm not able to save
the kernel-messages directly from screen output. I will try to reprint a
part of the output:

[...]

activating NMI Watchdog ... done.
testing the IO-APIC.....................

 WARNING: unexcpected IO-APIC, please mail
          to linux-smp@vger.kernel.org
.................................... done.
calibrating APIC timer...

[...]

then later, when it tries to load the SCSI-driver for the GDT:

[...]

scsi0 : GDT6533RS
Vendor: ICP Model: Host Drive #00 Rev:
Type: Direct Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
<--- here the output stops for a while, then continues --->
NMI Watchdog detected LOCKUP on CPU1, registers:
CPU: 1
EIP: 0010:[<c01d61a2>]
[...lots of registers...]
console shuts up...

...and that's it. With the kernel-option "noapic" everything works fine.
Are there any disadvantages in this? Do I have to expect any slowdowns?
