I am having a OOPS on my system when I am using both processor
heavily. I have captured and traced 5 OOPSes. I have been reproducing
it using "make -j2" on the kernel. The compile runs fine for 30 sec or
so and then the kernel goes belly-up. Sometimes it won't OOPS and
instead will print "Unable to handle kernel paging request" or
something like that and nothing else. The crashes are hard
freezes. I've been using a null modem cable to log console messages on
another computer. My system is:

TYAN Tiger 230
two Pentium III 1GHz CPUs (133MHz bus, Socket 370)
a 256MB Micron SDRAM DIMM
Voodoo 3 graphics card
Soundblaster Live! Value (most of the modules where not loaded when
the OOPSes where captured. I think soundcore.o may have been loaded.)
an RTL-8139 ethernet card (driver builtin to the kernel)

It may be of interest that I am getting the "unexpected IO-APIC"
message at boot time. You can find it in either of the attached boot
logs (oops1.log and oops3.log). Also I this system ran for a little
while with a kernel that had been compiled for a single Pentium 133
(no MMX) and I had some crashes of a similar nature, but I didn't log
any of them.

I understand that this may be a hardware problem, but it seemed to
match up with other problems people had mentioned on this list, so I
thought I'd give software a try first.

I've attached 2 of the 5 OOPSes, their associated logs, /proc/pci and
/proc/cpuinfo. Two of the other oopses were very similar to oops1, so
I think that may be closer to the truth since it was repeated. I'll be
glad to give any info you need (more OOPSes, anything), just drop me a
mail.

Any recommendations, work-arounds or fixes would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

-Arthur

PS: Please tell me if I should send the logs as part of the text
instead of as MIME attachments.
