I tried disabling the second serial port (IRQ 3) instead,
and it did _not_ work. :(

Whatever this is, it has to do not only with the interrupt
as such, but with the IDE controller chip and possibly how
its interrupts are assigned.

I believe that the easiest thing to do for me at the moment
is to stick with kernel 2.2.20, which works nicely with SMP,
APIC _and_ IDE-controller, and try to fix the interaction
between this older kernel and RedHat 7.2, whereever that
might squeak.
