Subject:    IBM xSeries 220 MP-BIOS bug questions

Hello,

Forgive me if I've reached the wrong contact.

My company has four IBM xSeries 220 servers. Each server is dual processor
capable, but has only one processor installed per computer. When I compile
the kernel on each system, I enable APIC support for single processors. When
each system boots, the kernel reports that there is an MP-BIOS bug regarding
the timer. The kernel tries to set up the timer through the 8259A, but fails
and then disables the NMI watchdog. My dmesg from one of the machines
running  Red Hat Linux 7.1 will be included at the end of my e-mail.

How serious is this problem? What is the fix for this problem or is it even
possible to fix it? What happens if I need to upgrade the machines to two
processors and need to enable the APIC? If the NMI watchdog does not work,
what other features will not be available? Has this problem been encountered
before in the IBM xSeries 220 and would a different machine and/or brand be
recommended?
