Hi,

HW:
 Asus Mainboard
 Apollo Pro133A Chipset, BIOS Revision: 1010 (06/01/2001-VT694X-CUV4X-D)
 Dual 1GHz PIII (Coppermine)
OS:
 RedHat 7.1
 Kernel: shipped 2.4.2-2smp, 2.4.9smp

Symptom (dmesg):
ENABLING IO-APIC IRQs
...changing IO-APIC physical APIC ID to 2 ... ok.
Synchronizing Arb IDs.
..TIMER: vector=31 pin1=2 pin2=0

WARNING: unexpected IO-APIC, please mail [..]
.................................... done.
calibrating APIC timer ...
..... CPU clock speed is 1004.5910 MHz.
..... host bus clock speed is 133.9452 MHz.
cpu: 0, clocks: 1339452, slice: 446484
CPU0<T0:1339440,T1:892944,D:12,S:446484,C:1339452)

After this line, the machine is freezed. Sometimes the machine
freezes already after the line '..TIMER...'.

Booting the kernels w/ 'noapic' solves this issue (of course).
Both CPUs then report themselves APIC version 17 and both
have the same stepping (0a). CPU0/1 reports in 'noapic' w/
CPU0<T0:1339262,T1:892944,D:14,S:446434,C:1339302)
CPU1<T0:1339262,T1:446416,D:12,S:446434,C:1339302)

I had a similar problem w/ an older hp machine (iirc 2.2.14) and
the fix was relativly simple :>. Alan made a patch at that time.
I hope this issue can be solved also relativly soon :P

Please Cc: any answer/further question.

ciao
