Not just the relevant security patches for various services; upgrading
the kernel will also be necessary since there were definitely security
issues with kernels prior to 2.2.19.

I'm currently running a 2.2.x series kernel and bumping it up to the
latest, 2.2.21 is no great chore.  Just retain a copy of:

/usr/src/linux/.config

Copy it to the new source directory and run "make oldconfig" instead
of "make menuconfig."
