i brought up old slackware 3.2 on a machine with only 8 mb ram.
recompiled the kernel, modules, etc., but have one problem:
the driver for 3c507 is not compiled. .config has all the el?=m
so that all 3com stuff should be compiled (i get all the other
3c50x .o's.) i get a 3c590.o, which caues the unresolved symbol,
but i can fix that. i can copy 3c507.o from the installed
/lib/modules/2.0.29/... (which i renamed before make modules_install)
and modprobe will install the driver and all is well.

so... i'm trying to understand why it is not being compiled. if
i understand correctly, make dep is supposed to chose what modules
are needed? how does this work? where is this stored and where
does make modules go to find what .c files to compile? something
is causing the 3c507 driver to be skipped.

thanks,
   eddie
