Earlier this year I used <http://www.opentech.at/howtos/multiboot-howto/html/> to
build an RTLinux kernel from RH 9.0. I'm at a point where I'd like to use ntp and
Samba. I'd like to use ntp so that I can network my three computers and get a time
synch from the network to keep the Linux clock pretty accurate every day. Samba would
be handy to get some files to the other two machines that operate Win2000 and Win XP.
Win XP is my daily workhorse and I'm on the net with it quite a bit every day. It
would provide access to the accurate clock on the internet.

An inspection of my RH 9.0 build showed that it only partially provided Samba. I
posted a message about this on the redhat.linux.misc newsgroup. A fellow who posts a
Lenard commented that since RH 9.0 is no longer supported that I would be much better
off going to Fedora Core 2. You can see our exchanges on this on the NG. Just search
for Samba. Here's my question? Is this the right thing to do? Am I likely to succeed
and still have a working RTLinux when I've updated the Samba package? I really don't
want to end up starting this whole process over of re-installing RH 9, creating a
Kernel, etc.
