I found the Tyan S2460 to be best suited for my needs, with the
Tyan S2462 a close second. These are both dual Athlon boards based
on the AMD 760MP chipset. Surprisingly, the Tyan 2468 based on the
AMD 760MPX chipset had greatly degraded performance when accessing
registers on PCI devices. My project involved frequent transfers of
fairly small size, so register access was the dominating factor in
the entire system. The board designers at Tyan couldn't come up
with an explanation for this.
