Hello all,

I'm having an unusual problem with pppd. I'm trying to connect to a
netscreen LNS through a PDSN - LAC. Once the LAC transports the ppp
session to the LNS after the initial authentication at the LAC (thru pap),
the LNS first does the LCP negotiation which goes on fine and then sends
me a second pap request. PPPD responds with a pap packet containing my
user and password. The LNS on the other side receives this pap packet and
responds with a PAP ACK. I don't know which but either my kernel driver or
pppd is not being able to recognize this packet as a PAP ACK.

7e ff 03 c0 23 02 03 00 05 00 fd 02 7e - this is the PAP ACK packet
recived as seen my pppdump

If i connect to another network ( its a different setup altogether - a
working one), the PAP ACK that i recieve is

7e c0 23 02 01 00 05 00 fd 30 7e

pppd sees this as a valid PAP ACK

and the only difference between these two packets is that the second
packet doesn't have the address and control bytes.

i made a change to the pppd, such that it doesn't wait for the PAP ACK and
jumps to the IPCP negotiation. However its the same story. The pppd can't
recognize the IPCP packets either.

Am attaching the two hex dumps "working" and "not-working".

thanking all in anticipation
regards
Pratik
