Hi,
I'm not sure about APS but most of the other mid-range UPS's have a
SNMP module that you can attach to the serial port.
When the input voltage drops to a particular threshold, the SNMP
module can send your LinuxPPC (or any machine) a SNMP trap. All you
have to do is to listen for these traps on udp port 162 and trigger
the appropriate action.
I believe that the CMU/UCD SNMP package used to have a snmp trap
reciever as part of the example code. It would be simple to extend
this to handle the specific traps sent by a UPS.
