That's again, most likely a midnight commander for gnome problem, see below
for info.

Weird.. Can you still kill X by using cntl-opt-power or does it lock the
system up had? Sounds like a X Server problem. I've never experienced a
problem like this.

> * The midnight commander (gmc) crashes from time to time.

That's a known problem, that has been acknowledged by RedHat's GNOME team.
They recommend you upgrade the midnight commander to a newer version than
included with 1.0. Midnight Commander was released prematurely, and has some
bugs left in it, so it's recommended that everybody upgrade to a newer
version.

Hmm... I get that problem too, I dunno the solution.. I still use xMixer,
which works find on my machine. (Their has been some problems with the
Enlightened Sound Daemon on the Mac/PowerPC.

hmm... I still use Kppp for my internet connection, so I can't really help
you their.

I have never tried gdm, because I can't find good instructions to install
it. I'll have to try that some time.

Try compiling and replacing your system to the latest version of the GNOME
libraries which contain lots of bug fixes.
