I found a workaround for this. The problem appears to be
Fedora 8 doesn't have the drivers to work with the latest
PERC controller in the PE1950.

Therefore we installed Fedora 7 successfully and will wait
for a revision of F8 or we will install F9 at a later date.

Fedora 7 is fine for now and so this solved our immediate
problem.
