Yes, it was. And rebuilding the kernel was more or less a longshot; it had to
be tried...

Thanks, that did the trick. Almost... :-)

Turns out I can get the kernel to build but will end up with unresolved
symbols at mkinitrd-time. I didn't bother investigating further which modules
are causing these since at this point I've more or less given up on the kernel
rebuild as a viable workaround for the time beeing.


My next step is going to be a full set of tiobench benchmarks for as many
relevant variables I can think of; hopefully analyzing these will give me a
clue if I've overlooked something somewhere. Barring that, and if time and
circumstance allow, I'll try to get an Oracle benchmark done.

My final straw to grasp for is the Bugzilla comment by Jeff Moyer that this
issue bites only IO done __through_a_filesystem__. With any kind of luck that
means OCFS and/or rawdevices won't be affected.
