Maybe it is a very old patch...

In 2005, we added -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 to CPPFLAGS in the configure
script (commit 8bf6277b27b95b7b458a3d6f613ebbaed417253c) and a little
over a year ago that was changed in commit
   6108478a99884f38c8afd1d1f2a0de1580113bd2
to use "AC_SYS_LARGEFILE" which causes autoconf to do all the right
magic.

So I definitely don't think this patch is wanted.
