I did so, but got the same error that the one published in the list. This is
why I think (but may be wrong, I'm far to be a kernel hacker :-) that when you
rebuild the module, you need to recreate more than the initrd. In fact, I've
made the rebuild steps you mentioned for NIC drivers, but, since in this case
the driver controls the boot disk, I guess is necessary to rebuild the entire
kernel.
Have somebody completed a successful test of the new driver just rebuilding the
module and the initrd and rebooting? If so, I'm very wrong :-( Well, every day
you learn something new!!
