Hello,

I have done a base install of Red Hat 8.0 on a NEC versa 6030x laptop

Everything is fine so far except PCMCIA. I have a slimSCSI adaptec
1460B card which was working perfectly with RH 7.1 on the same laptop.
I had already mentioned this problem here (see thread "PCMCIA NIC not
seen by RH7.2"). Other people told me to upgrade to latest RH (which I
did) and then to latest kernel from official RH errata. I did that
too, but nothing really changed. The details are below, but what
drives me crazy is that I don't even figure out which direction to
try. For example (see below) I read the message "Please try using
pci=biosirq" . *Where* should I try it? Which file? I did read both
the laptop and pcmcia howto, but (unlike other linux topics) I must be
really thick on this specific issue: *any* suggestion is appreciated!

Details:

Now I only hear the first beep when I plug the card in. I have pasted
an excerpt of dmesg below. I have the feeling that I have forgotten
some essential file in the custom install, but can't figure out which
one: if further info is needed, just ask, I
didn't want to paste/attach too many files all together.

For the record, if I plug in a network card, it gives one beep, and
then the laptop freezes completely: only power down solves the
problem.

Tried Google with the ethernet card number, and contacted the
manufacturer too: no luck

	TIA,
		Marco Fioretti
