Ok.  This should work for the client.

nslookup is for DNS not for netbios.  You can use nbtstat to get 
netbios information.

This should work.  But it involves more work in the long run --> hand 
editing a file on the server each time a client changes addresses.  And
if another machine needs to contact the client, you will have to edit 
that machines lmhosts file too.

The best solution is to run WINS on the PDC (or use "wins support = yes" 
if the server is running SaMBa) and tell the client to use WINS.  In
this 
configuration, when the client comes on, it contacts the WINS server and 
registers it's name and IP address.  The WINS server (and all other 
machines using it for WINS services) can now resolve the netbios 
name for the client.  And it's automated from here on out ;)
