I'm (finally) migrating my "old" 7500-8 based servers (running RH7.3 (!!)
and XFS) to centos-4. Rather than wedge XFS into the distro, I decided to
migrate to ext3 (I got decent results on my 9500 based system with ext3).

The initial results are less than exciting. The systems have 2 7500-8
boards in hardware RAID5 with a software RAID0 stripe across 'em. Just
for testing, I created the stripe and formatted it like this:

[jlb@$HOST ~]$ sudo mdadm -C /dev/md0 -c 4096 -l 0 -n 2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sdb4
[jlb@$HOST ~]$ sudo mke2fs -b 4096 -j -m 0 -R stride=1024 -T largefile /dev/md0

Initial tiobench results are on the order of 180MB/s reading (OK) and
30MB/s writing (ugh). 'blockdev --setra 16384' had very little effect on
those numbers (upped the reads a bit, didn't touch the writes).

Any ideas? Anybody else running a 2.6 based distro with these older
boards? How are you tuning 'em?

Thanks.
