Hi all,

In the November, 2003 issue of Linux Magazine (the US-based magazine, not
the european one of the same name), is now available on newsstands.
[http://linux-mag.com] [Note that as of now their web site doesn't yet
mention the November issue]. The cover of this issue is a sort of
moebius strip of "9"s.

It has three articles on high-availability techniques for Linux. The
article on the Linux Virtual Server (the Linux load balancer) was written
by LVS creator Wensong Zhang. The article on DRBD was written by
long-time DRBD contributor Lars Ellenberg. I wrote the cover article on
Linux-HA (heartbeat).

The Linux-HA article is entitled "Highly Affordable High-Availability" and
describes a basic heartbeat+DRBD setup - similar to that being used by
many people on the list.

This article is basically a HOWTO type article.

It describes a sort-of-universal high-availability server setup which is a
file server (NFS and Samba), DHCP server, and mail (SMTP) gateway.

Although the article mainly discussed DRBD disk replication because of the
emphasis on broad applicability and extreme low cost, it touched on
disk sharing technologies. This same type of setup could easily be
configured on top of shared storage.
